District State Rep. Sarah Lightner was first elected to serve in the Michigan House of Representatives in November 2018. The 45 th House District includes portions of Calhoun, Jackson and Kalamazoo counties. Committees Sarah is chair of the House Judiciary Committee. She also serves on the House’s Agriculture, Insurance, and Finance committees. Education Sarah attended Springport High School and Lansing Community College. Professional Sarah has made her career as a paralegal specializing in criminal defense and family law. She and her husband also operate a small crop farm and custom hay baling and wrapping operation. Public Offices and Affiliations Before becoming a state representative, Sarah served as a Jackson County commissioner for the 1st District. She is active with several groups including the Jackson County Farm Bureau, the Springport FFA Alumni and Boosters, the National Association of Counties, the Criminal Justice Policy Commission, and Michigan Works!, among others. Personal Sarah and her husband David have two sons – Eli and Gavin.
