Robert E. Craven (D) has served the residents of North Kingstown in District 32 since first being elected in November 2012. He is a member of the House Judiciary Committee, the House Innovation and Technology Committee, and the House Small Business Committee. He served as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee from 2019 through 2025. During the 2025 session, Representative Craven introduced a bill into law that protects employees' rights in the workplace concerning political and religious matters by creating a civil action that may provide damages and attorneys' fees. He also sponsored legislation that gives the Rhode Island Family Court concurrent jurisdiction on juvenile cases arising on military bases and installations located in Rhode Island. Two other bills he introduced into law were a part of Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi's 2025 housing package. One requires municipalities to provide for village or mixed-use zoning to allow residential use in some or all areas of their commercial zoning districts , and the other new law makes it easier to build much-needed housing in Rhode Island .
