Rep. Ramon A. Perez (D-Dist. 13, Providence, Johnston) was first elected to the House of Representatives in November 2016 and was elected again to represent the seat in November 2020. He is a member of the House Special Legislation Committee, the House Labor Committee, and the House Education Committee. In 2025, Representative Perez introduced a House resolution condemning President Trump’s executive order that bans birthright citizenship . The resolution states that the policy has been in place for more than 150 years and is enshrined in the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution, which grants citizenship to people “born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof” regardless of their parent's immigration or citizenship status. During the 2024 legislative session, Representative Perez introduced legislation that would prohibit a landlord from inquiring about the immigration status of a tenant and a bill that would limit residential rent increases to 10%, plus the increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), annually.
