Paul Jacobs

As Senator for the 59th Senate District, Paul Jacobs is a strong voice for the families, communities, and businesses of Southern Illinois. Senator Jacobs was appointed to the Illinois Senate after serving as State Representative since 2020. In his new role, he continues his commitment to representing the values and priorities of Southern Illinois, with a focus on fiscal responsibility, ethical reform, and supporting the hardworking people of the region. Before joining the Senate, Senator Jacobs built a record of public service in the Illinois House of Representatives, where he worked to advocate for the needs of Southern Illinois families, small businesses, and local communities. His legislative experience, combined with his background as a veteran and small business owner, gives him a firsthand understanding of the issues facing the people he represents. Senator Jacobs is a United States Navy veteran, having served from 1965 to 1971. Following his military service, he began a long career in optometry and has practiced in Southern Illinois for more than 47 years.
