Ned is a father of three: son Travis, who graduated from UNH in 2021, daughter Anneliese, a senior at George Washington University, and daughter Vivian, a junior at Portsmouth High School. He's had a twenty-six-year professional career in energy efficiency, climate change and solar energy policy, programs, and business (commercial & institutional sales and project development), having worked for the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the Union of Concerned Scientists, Johnson Controls, and ReVision Energy among others. A 1986 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, he served 8 years on active duty and another 13 in the Coast Guard Reserve, participating in the responses to both the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill and Hurricane Katrina (2007). He earned a Master's in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in 1996. He enjoys the triathlon sports and playing men's league hockey and baseball.
