Michael S. Cashman was elected in a November 2025 special election to represent the 115th Assembly District, which includes Clinton and Franklin counties and portions of Essex County. The district stretches from working farms along the Canada–U.S. border, through small towns in the heart of the Adirondacks, to the shores of Lake Champlain. Cashman’s district-focused approach is grounded in that geography, protecting agricultural land and cross-border commerce, investing in Adirondack communities, and expanding opportunities along the Lake Champlain corridor. Before his election to the Assembly, Cashman served nearly a decade as Town Supervisor of the Town of Plattsburgh, becoming the youngest person ever elected to the position. As Supervisor, he led an agenda focused on infrastructure investment, responsible economic development, housing, and long-term community planning. He advanced major projects including the Town’s Water and Wastewater Capital Plan, the Battlefield Memorial Gateway, the CHAMP Law (Creating Housing Acceleration Measures for Plattsburgh), and numerous other initiatives that strengthened the local economy and improved quality of life. A first-generation college graduate and two-time SUNY Plattsburgh alumnus. Cashman has been an active leader in higher education and national service. He serves on the SUNY Plattsburgh University Council and, in 2024, received the National TRIO Achiever Award from the Council for Opportunity in Education for his advocacy on behalf of first-generation and low-income students. Beyond local government, he has served as Chair of the New York State Commission on National and Community Service, helping advance volunteerism and strengthen AmeriCorps programs across the state. In the Assembly, Cashman is focused on housing, accessible healthcare, quality education, infrastructure investment, reliable broadband and cell service, economic opportunity for farmers and small businesses, public safety, and long-term planning that delivers for the people of the North Country. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with public and private partners to advance initiatives that strengthen communities and promote economic growth. He is committed to a bipartisan, results-driven approach to governing and to keeping the region an affordable, safe, and vibrant place to live, work, and raise a family. Cashman resides in the Town of Plattsburgh with his wife, Olivia.
