Senator Max Burns, a Republican, represents Georgia’s 23rd Senate District. Elected in November 2020, he serves Burke, Emanuel, Glascock, Jefferson, Jenkins, McDuffie, Screven, Taliaferro, and Warren counties, as well as parts of Columbia and Richmond counties. Before his career in higher education, Sen. Burns served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He then became a professor of information systems at Georgia Southern University, teaching both domestically and internationally as a Fulbright Scholar. Sen. Burns is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Higher Education. He also serves as an Ex-Officio member of the Senate Committees on Appropriations, Sen. Burns furthered his career in information management, working with major organizations such as Gulfstream Aerospace, Grinnell Corporation, Oxford Industries, and the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. His public service began in the early 1990s when he was elected to the Screven County Board of Commissioners, where he served for six years until 1998. In 2002, Sen.
