Representative Mark Newton, a Republican, represents the 127 th House District, which portions of Columbia and Richmond counties. Dr. Newton currently serves as the Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education. He also serves on the Defense & Veterans Affairs, Health, Rules, Small Business Development, Transportation, Ways & Means and Urban Affairs committees. Rep. Newton is a dedicated member of the Georgia community. He was born and raised in Macon, Georgia. Rep. Newton practices in Augusta as a board-certified emergency physician and is also the founder and CEO of MedNow Urgent Care Centers with locations throughout the Greater Augusta and east Georgia areas. Rep. Newton earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Georgia and earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. He has also completed his master’s degree in healthcare management at Harvard University School of Public Health.
