Rep. Julie Casimiro (D-Dist. 31, North Kingstown, Exeter) was first elected to the House of Representatives in November 2016. She was named a Deputy Majority Leader in January 2019. Representative Casimiro is the first vice chair of the House Committee on Oversight and chairs that committee's Children and Families Subcommittee. She is also a member of the House Education Committee, the House Judiciary Committee, and the House Veterans' Affairs Committee. During the 2025 session, Representative Casimiro introduced a new law that requires every school in Rhode Island to have a policy on the use of personal electronics that prohibits students from having access to them during the school day. She also sponsored legislation that became law to protect Rhode Islanders from a rapidly growing category of scams that use cryptocurrency ATMs to defraud victims. She was selected to the National Conference of State Legislatures 2025 cohort of the Youth Justice Fellows Program , joining a national network of state lawmakers dedicated to advancing youth justice policy and legislation.
