Joshua J. Giraldo (D) was first elected in a special election in March 2020 to the seat in House District 56 in Central Falls. He is the first vice chair of the House Health Human Services Committee and a member of the House Education Committee, House Special Legislation Committee, and the House Veterans' Affairs Committee. During the 2025 session, Representative Giraldo introduced a law that expands paid family leave through the Temporary Caregiver Insurance (or TCI) program, raising the wage replacement rates from the current 60% to 70% starting in January 2027, followed by 75% in January 2028. He also sponsored a law that requires employers to provide all employees at the start of their employment with a written notice detailing the terms and conditions of their job — including pay, benefits, deductions and work policies. He also sponsored a law ensuring that all contractors of state-funded public construction projects are provided a list of minority- and women-owned businesses to help them comply with contracting requirements.
