Jon D. Brien (I) was elected in November 2022 and re-elected in November 2024 as the State Representative from District 49 in Woonsocket and North Smithfield. He previously represented District 50 in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2012. He is a member of the House Labor Committee, House Oversight Committee, and House State Government and Elections Committee. In the 2025 session, Representative Brien sponsored a law that enables safety-net hospitals, clinics, and other health care agencies to provide care to the most vulnerable Rhode Islanders by prohibiting insurers, pharmacy benefits managers, and other payors from engaging in discriminatory practices in the purchase of prescriptions through the federal 340B discount program . During the 2024 session, he sponsored the Transparency in Arts Education Access and Proficiency Act , which promotes education in the arts at the middle and high school levels by requiring each middle and high school to provide annual reports on the availability of, and percentage of students enrolled in, arts education courses.
