Rep. Jenni A. Furtado was elected in November 2024 to represent District 64 in East Providence and Pawtucket. She serves on the House Labor Committee, the House Municipal Government and Housing Committee, and the House State Government and Elections Committee. In her first session in 2025, Representative Furtado cosponsored legislation to place a cap on medical debt interest , encourage affordable housing development, including townhouses , and allow 90-day prescriptions for ADHD medications . She pushed for more state aid to municipalities and schools and was happy to support a budget that included significant increases for both . She also introduced legislation to improve mental health in schools , an on-going priority for her. The daughter of first-generation Peruvian immigrants, Representative Furtado became Rhode Island's first Peruvian-American elected official when she was elected to the East Providence School Committee in 2020. She was reelected in 2022 and served as committee chairwoman in her second term, overseeing the completion of the new East Providence High School from her position on the School Committee and as a member of the High School Building Committee.…
