Georgia State Representative El-Mahdi Holly was elected to public office in 2018, making history as both the first person of color and first Democrat to win his historically Republican semi-rural district. Currently, as the state representative for House District 116, Rep. Holly chairs the bipartisan Henry County Legislative Delegation and actively serves the working families of Georgia. His district has been redrawn to now cover both Henry County and DeKalb County, which includes Cedar Grove, County Line-Ellenwood, Ellenwood, Fairview, Gresham Park, Swan Lake and portions of McDonough and Stockbridge. He also sits as a member of the House Committees on Code Revision, Industry & Labor, Transportation, Small Business Development and Judiciary Non-Civil. Representative Holly also founded the nation’s first and only Africa Legislative Caucus where he currently serves as co-chairman. In 2023, he received the House Legislator of the Year Award from the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, the nation’s largest state body of African American lawmakers and in 2025, he received the Excellence in Community Leadership Award from the Psi Alpha Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority…
