Representative Earl Read (D-District 26, Coventry, West Warwick, Warwick) was elected in November 2024. He serves on the House Education Committee, the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, and the House Special Legislation Committee. In his first session in 2025, Representative Read introduced a law that overhauled the Public Records Administration Act , designating a public records administrator, amending the definition of records, adding various definitions, modifying a records control schedule, designating a records officer, and establishing procedures for the retention of public records and their transfer after 20 years to the state archives. He also sponsored a law that allows teachers in public schools to hold a brief moment of silence to recognize the anniversary of the tragic attacks of September 11, 2001. In addition, he sponsored a resolution creating a special House commission to study the flooding of the Pawtuxet River. Representative Read is a criminal justice instructor at the Regional Career and Technical Center at Coventry High School.
