Senator David Lucas, a Democrat, has served in the Georgia State Senate since 2012. He represents Senate District 26, which includes Hancock, Johnson, Twiggs, Washington and Wilkinson counties, as well as portions of Bibb and Houston counties. GEORGIA’S 26TH SENATE DISTRICT Sen. Lucas serves as Secretary of the Senate Committee on Urban Affairs and as a member of the Senate Committees on Insurance and Labor, Health and Human Services, Regulated Industries and Utilities, and Transportation. He is also an Ex-Officio member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations. Prior to holding office in the Georgia Senate, Sen. Lucas served in the Georgia House of Representatives since 1975. Sen. Lucas and his wife Elaine live in Macon, GA. They have four children: David Jr., Aris, Leonard and Albert. Sen. Lucas is a founding member of 100 Black Men and the Al Lucas Scholarship Foundation. He also earned the Distinguished Service Award for Excellence in Political Activities from NYU at Manhattan. Sen. Lucas has earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Tuskegee Institute, a Doctorate from Mercer University’s Medical School, and an Honorary Doctorate of Law from Mercer University.
