Carry Spier was born in the Bronx, NY, the oldest of 5 children. Her father was a shop teacher (no degree was required at the time), and her mother was a homemaker. As first-generation Americans, they felt the most important thing they could provide to their children is a good education. All 5 finished public school and gone on to college and graduate school. Most of Carry's 53-year career has been in Military Aerospace as a systems engineer and systems engineering manager working on projects from Apollo to F-35 across an extensive array of technologies in the US, Canada, Japan and the UK. About 20 years ago, Carry became very concerned with the effects of global warming on animals. She began filming endangered birds and large mammals across the planet at times working with National Geographic. She has taken her cameras to Tibet, Antarctica, Russia, China, Southeast Asia, the Amazon, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, northern Canada, Svalbard, Madagascar, Borneo, Australia, the Middle East and other places.
