Senator Bill Cowsert, a Republican, was elected to serve Senate District 46 in 2006. He represents the citizens of Barrow, Clarke, Gwinnett, Oconee and Walton counties. Sen. Cowsert serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Regulated Industries and Utilities, Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Secretary of the Senate Committee on Rules and Senate Committee on Reapportionment and Redistricting. GEORGIA’S 46TH SENATE DISTRICT Sen. Cowsert also serves as a member of the Senate Committee on Insurance and Labor, Senate Committee on Finance and Senate Committee on Health and Human Services. Born Sept. 1, 1958, in Jackson, Mississippi, and raised in Macon, Georgia, Sen. Cowsert graduated from Macon Central High School, earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Presbyterian College, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law. Sen. Cowsert is a founding partner of the Athens’ based law firm Cowsert & Heath. He is the past president of the Athens Sertoma Club and Clarke County Heart Association, and past board member of the Athens Touchdown Club. Sen.
