A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as a member of Virginia's House of Delegates from 2018 to 2024. Guzmán was first elected in 2017 after defeating incumbent Republican Scott Lingamfelter, and was re-elected in 2025 after defeating incumbent Republican Ian Lovejoy.
